Every household in South Africa needs one of these. Whether you live in a big house, full of kids and pets, or alone, the Taroma Robi1 will become part of the family.

The motor and the smart chip is imported from Japan and features state of the art technology that combines a powerful suction (3000 Pa) with low noise levels.

It’s ready to go right out of the box. All you have to do is clip on the side brushes and the dustbin, press the on button and let it loose. After a while, pick the robot up, pull the dustbin out, empty it and insert again to keep going.

The thing that will surprise you most about the robot is the sheer amount of dust, pet hair and dirt it sucks up in a short period of time. The small and sleek design allows it to get into places that you normally don’t get to clean, under beds, under the stove, behind the TV cabinet etc.

The robot cleans thoroughly in the crevices between tiles and hardwood floors with it’s powerful brushless suction motor.

You can easily switch between vacuum and mopping mode by simply sliding the dustbin out and sliding in the water tank. The robot will then intelligently release just the right amount of water to ensure no wet puddles are left on your floor. When the robot stops, the water stops dispensing.

Both the Dustbin and Mop attachment can easily be cleaned by rinsing with water and left to dry.

When in vacuum mode the robot will do Zig Zag cleaning to ensure that it covers the whole area in the least amount of time.

You can also set it to do only Border cleaning, where it will run along a wall and clean tightly against it, including corners.

There is also a Fixed point cleaning mode which means that it will stay around one spot and clean that particular spot in circles. (perfect for disaster areas)

The battery is of high quality and lasts for 130 minutes of continuous cleaning. When the battery runs low, the robot will return itself to the charging station and begin to charge the battery.

Artificial Intelligence is used to build a map of your house inside the robot’s computer. That allows for more efficient cleaning in less time since the robot knows exactly where to clean and won’t have to go over the same spot twice.

Sensors are used to avoid collisions with furniture and the robot will also not fall off steps. Instead, the robot will intelligently work its way around your furniture and ensure that it cleans in all corners and close to the actual furniture.

The Taroma Robi1 can be controlled with a remote control (included) as well as an APP where you can set the cleaning schedule to suit you.

It will NOT do the whole house as it struggles with carpets, etc. You need to babysit it a bit. The map is not as cool as in the picture, in fact, the actual map is a useless gimmick.     Great robo vacuum cleaner with long battery life and high suction power. Note that the clean time is affected if you are running in turbo mode which is expected. The anti collision and anti fall features are quite impressive. I’d definitely recommend this product if you want a vacuum cleaner alternative and want to be hands off but this does not replace your vacuum cleaner. I still feel the need to vacuum the house once a week.

    The mop function also works quite well although the Taroma cannot differentiate between a tiled area and a carpeted area. This becomes a problem in rooms where you have both and you need to put physical boundaries. Not worth the effort.

    One thing to keep in mind is that, these devices only work on 2.4Ghz wifi networks so if you have a 5GHz access point, you may not be able to use the app unless you create a separate access point. This is not a limitation as most of these devices only work on 2.4Ghz because of its long range. Having said that, the remote works quite well.

    Another drawback is the map builder on the app. I don’t feel like it is accurate or reliable for that matter. I’d recommend you stay away from the app to avoid any disappointment. Just stick with the remote 🙂

    This robot vacuum cleaner works very well. Can let it go and clean while you do other things. It picks up all the dust and dog hair. I have a combination of wooden floors and vinyl floors. No carpets, but it does vacuum my mats that are not too flimsy as well. Very happy with it!
    I haven’t used the mop function yet, but it should work well judging by how the vacuum function works.

    It works fine. I thought that you could program it for each room but it does not seem to work like that. It sometimes gets confused and goes back to the same place again and I have to manually manouvre it. It also cannot find the charger if it is more than 5 meters away, so I need to pick it up and take it there. I hoped that I could leave it and it would clean the whole house by itself, but it needs intervention. If it is only a small room it works fine.

    I have send the unit back: The ability to identify different rooms – edit rooms, build virtual walls cannot be done. The unite gets stuck on a 6mm thick carpet. I was disappointed because I tried to get that info up front before I ordered the unit. The manual is fairly good with the setup but the actual operations for different scenarios is none excitant. Also from the day I paid it took 7 days (including weekend) before it was delivered.

    Works very well and I have not used my regular vacuum in the 10 days since I got Kurt. With 3 dogs, 1 cat and 3 boy children, in a 4 bedroom house I was finding the fur and crumbs overwhelming but not since Kurt arrived! He can become quite obsessed with certain areas but I just pick him up and put him where I want him. As noted by others the WiFi does not seem to help him cover the area more efficiently and the map is largely useless. Good suction power and I am startled by how much dust and pet fur I empty from the dust compartment. Best part; he can run during load shedding!

    What an amazing little robot! I was very skeptical that something this small could actually clean my house which is >500m2 of floor space. Not only did it clean up better than the normal vacuum cleaner, it got to spaces under the beds and under the furniture which are inaccessible with a handheld cleaner. And just when I thought a room was clean, it managed to find more dust on every pass. Even the mop can clean the wooden floors without any problem. Gulped a bit at paying R6K for a vacuum cleaner, but sense it’s going to be worth every cent. We have acres of tiles in our new-build home, and were endlessly trying to keep on top of all the building site dust and dog hair.     Love my robot vacuum and mop! It has limitations that you need to be aware of. For example if you live in a multi level house you can move the robot between upstairs and downstairs to do its thing but it can only build one map. So can’t map out each level of the house unfortunately. Still looking at how much lighter your jobload will be it is still well worth the buy! The less cluttered your house is the better it will function as well. It can navigate around obstacles of course but it can’t move things to clean under it. I have had mine for 2 weeks now and it’s already an essential in the household! I can watch it in awe for hours

    What a change this has brought to our lives. It is easy to use and does such a good cleaning job. We have not used the floor wash function yet. The amount of dirt it cleans up is remarkable. We use it daily and really appreciate the clean home we have even more. There is a bit of a snag sometimes when the robot’s little brushes get stuck underneath a carpet but then it does tell you that it is stuck. The other thing to watch out for is if it is not in the same room as its docking station, it does become disorientated. lol Highly recommend this product.

    It works well, sucks up the dust and dirt, but it can’t seem to learn the layout of the rooms and how they interconnect and the app, Tuya Smart, displays maps for where the unit has cleaned, but there is no manual that I can find that describes how to train the unit to the layout of the house. So every time I want it to clean, I have to carry it into the room and tell it to “autoclean” and it cant find its way to the charging station unless the charging station is in the same room in which it is cleaning.
    Mopping system is a laugh, it will wet down and wipe tiles, but it cannot clear stains from spilled coffee or cooldrinks.
    Overall, it saves me time and I am happy with it’s vacuuming performance. However the automation of the schedule to clean the house, I doubt this unit will ever do that, lack of instructions is a big point. If there was a comprehensive instruction manual and the unit could map the layout of the house, I would give it a better rating. Perhaps if the firmware or the app is updated in future, I may be convinced to give it a better rating.
